The project includes a new dining and multipurpose room, which is intended to serve both the new and old portions of the building, and will provide additional meeting and activity rooms when not in use as a dining room. The dining room has seating for 100 persons, and a completely renovated commercial kitchen.
After discussions with staff and residents, it became clear that the character of the main dining rooms should reflect the detailing and traditions of the area—open rough sawn trusses, simple massive walls, and deep set windows. The design team analyzed the acoustic performance of the room to ensure that noise would be dampened and added sound insulating panels in harmony with the architecture. Large openings into an adjacent gallery space offer borrowed views to the adjacent gardens, and help make the Dining Room a focal point within the building.
The main dining room is flanked by one large meeting room, and a smaller private dining room. Both can be used for a variety of activities, from lectures and musical performances to private parties and birthday celebrations.
