This building houses an innovative program that offers child day care to parents on public assistance that attend classes on the campus. Visitors proceed through a sky lit entry area to discover a circular arcade and garden beyond. The arcade links all classrooms, and interior windows allow views of the garden and woods from both sides of the classrooms. When it rains, children play comfortably along the arcade, which has low benches to accommodate quiet reading or coloring, or they enjoy music and drama in a circular multipurpose room off the arcade. Interior spaces make extensive use of day lighting to minimize the need for artificial light. Throughout the facility, at least half the window openings are at child height.

This project completed when Tom McQuillen was with Gruzen Samton Architects.
